Announcing iceoryx2 v0.10.0
Zero-copy shared memory now handles payloads that grow at runtime, FlatBuffers can be built in place, and event notifications are no longer dropped.
Our summary
iceoryx2 is ekxide’s zero-copy inter-process communication library, with bindings for C, C++, Python, Rust and C#. Until now a payload’s maximum size had to be fixed up front, because every endpoint maps the same shared memory. Version 0.10 adds a FlatBuffers allocator that can grow a sample after it’s been handed out, so payloads can be unbounded and still zero-copy, and FlatBuffers messages are built and read directly in shared memory with no serialization copy. Event notifications are no longer dropped when buffers fill, and a listener now learns which event woke it and how many times it fired. Ports can be named so a notification reaches one listener instead of all of them, subscribers in one service can keep different history sizes, and the gateway building blocks got faster and gained an allowlist, ahead of a ROS 2 gateway. The release also notes that iceoryx classic reaches end of life at the end of 2026.
